Today, our nation celebrates her 56th birthday. Happy National Day! This year is a departure from previous years with the spectacle of the National Day Parade postponed due to Heightened Alert. With most of us doing our nation service by staying at home, we bring to us a list of truly Singaporean apps that only the true-blue Singaporean would have on their phones.
How many of these apps do you have on your mobile?
#1 TraceTogther
While you can get the TraceTogether token and save on your battery life, downloading this app will save you in a pinch. Sometimes life happens and you forget to bring your token. With TraceTogether check-ins compulsory at public places, even a quick 7-11 run for your favourite chips will need a TraceTogether entry. Even if you already have the token, the app is still worth a download.
With differentiated measures being implemented from 10 August 2021, fully vaccinated persons can also use this app to show proof of their vaccination status.

#2 SingPass
Using SingPass for government services has made logging into CPF and IRAS so much easier. The mobile authentication is much faster than typing in your password multiple times, especially if you are toggling between different government websites. If you have activated biometrical recognition on your phone, this process can be shortened to just seconds.
An additional benefit of having SingPass on mobile is that it makes applying for many financial services much faster. Many financial institutions have implemented MyInfo to make the sign-up process more convenient. By installing SingPass on your mobile, it is entirely possible to sign up for a new bank account or new brokerage account in a few minutes.

#3 HealthHub
For anyone who has visited any of our public hospitals or polyclinics, this app is essential. Not only does it allow you to check your appointment with any of the public hospitals, but it also allows you to check your screening results as soon as they are available, instead of waiting until your next doctor’s appointment. You can also view your health records within the app as well as keep track of when you should go for your recommended screenings such as mammograms.
If you have an elderly person or child in your household, you can also link up your HealthHub profiles. This will enable you to check on their appointments as well as access their health records.
One of the most important features of the app is the ability to make appointments with any of the polyclinics, public hospitals and specialty centres. While you may still need a referral letter to access the subsidised services, booking an appointment is a breeze with the app.
This is also the alternative app to use to show your vaccination status once differentiated measures are implemented.

#4 LifeSG
LifeSG, or formerly Moments of Life, is probably the best friend for every new parent in Singapore. It allows you to conveniently register the birth of your child as well as the Baby Bonus scheme. While many parents would already have this app due to the many families and parenting features (a legacy of its origins as the Moments of Life app), this is still worth a download for non-parents.
You are now able to check your eligibility for the various government support scheme with Life SG, including Budget 2021 Support Schemes. The balance of your SingapoRediscovers vouchers can be easily accessed from the app
You can also easily check your account balance for your SkillsFuture credits, search for new courses and for the forgetful, check what courses you have already attended using SkillsFuture credits. LifeSG also pulls together the various government resources to help you in your employment journey from starting a new job hunt to the reskilling opportunities available.
If you need government support in any form, LifeSG is a great place to start.

#5 Parking.sg
The essential app for every Singaporean driver, Parking.sg allows drivers to easily make parking payments. Gone are the days of buying a booklet of parking coupons and tearing off the little tabs. A straightforward and simple app that definitely warrants a space in your mobile phone if you drive in Singapore. Just the fact that you can extend your parking when you are lingering over your dinner makes this a winner.
#6 OneService
The app you didn’t know existed but always needed. For every Singaporean who has made a complaint about their HDB estate, this is the app for you. Instead of cracking your brains as to which government agency to report to about the choked-up drain in your estate, you can simply make a case report with this app. Whether your case belongs to the town council, HDB, URA or LTA is now resolved with this one-stop app solution.
Additionally, the app also provides residence-specific advisories such as the number of dengue cases in your neighbourhood as well as the PSI measures for air quality in your area.
#7 SGSecure
This is an app that you download and hope that you don’t need to use. If you ever are in a situation where you see a potential terrorist act, this is the app that allows you to make a report. While calling the police may be too indiscreet, using an app is such a commonplace occurrence that nobody would think twice about it.
In addition to reporting suspicious cases, the app also allows you to access MFA travel advisories and would push out information in times of a terrorist attack. The app also lists out the nearest locations of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for fast responders to quickly respond to a cardiac arrest.
#8 NLB Mobile
As an avid reader, this is probably hands-down my favourite app. Not only can you search through the entire library catalogue from the comfort from your own home, you can also download e-books. The library has really stepped up their game with many new releases available for download. The app also allows you to recommend a book to NLB if you are itching to read a book that the library hasn’t brought in.
If you don’t want to pay for a digital subscription to the newspapers, don’t worry the NLB got you covered with access to local newspapers like Straits Times. If you feel the need to dig into history, the NLB also has a digital archive available.
Note: you will need to download a companion app, Overdrive, to access the e-books.

#9 ScamShield
Ever wished that you can cut down on all the scam calls disrupting your day? This is the app for you.
The app will automatically block off calls from known scam numbers. If any scam calls still get through to you, you can also use the app to report the number. You can read more about the app in our article – What Is The ScamShield App And How You Can Use It Today To Protect Yourself And Your Loved One From Being Scammed.
Unfortunately, this is only available on iOS currently.
#10 ActiveSG
For the active Singaporean, ActiveSG is a great app to have. Regular swimmers who frequent our public pools would likely already have the app to keep track of their credits. You can also use these credits at any ActiveSG gyms and earn rewards at the same time.
One feature that makes this app worth a download is the ability to book the myriad ActiveSG facilities including badminton courts and soccer fields.
