Which Weekend Activity Is Worth Your Money?

To spend $25 at a cafe or play 6 games of laser quest?

How many movies can you watch in a cinema for the price of one trip to S.E.A. Aquarium? We look at 6 different weekend activity types and which options are most affordable.

#1 “Nua”

Sometimes all you want to do on a weekend is to enjoy some time with your friends and family, doing close to nothing at all. Café hopping, catching the latest movies or staying in a hotel or at home are all activities that allow you to just “nua”. You’re not just paying for the food and entertainment, but also the nice environment.

  Estimated Cost
Café $25 /person
Movie $12.50 /ticket
Staycation (2D1N) $200

#2 Indoor Activities

We are seeing more indoor activities in Singapore, as Singaporeans want to partake in physical activities while still in the comfort of an air-conditioned room.

Activities like bowling and laser quest are much more friendly on your wallet than activities such as “Escape Rooms”. However, the higher cost of activities such as “Escape Rooms” is understandable as almost nobody will visit a second time if they know the secret to leaving the room (unless of course it’s a different room challenge).

  Estimated Cost
Bounce $19 /person
Ice Skating $15-$20 /person
Laser Quest $4 /person
Bowling $4 /game
Escape Room $12-$38 /person

#3 Sweat It Out

Weekends are a great time to get some exercise done. East Coast Park is a popular place for families to go cycle, rollerblade and walk along the beach. Going to your family/friend’s gym would save you the cost of paying for an entry to a gym or fitness centre.

  Estimated Cost
East Coast Park $7 /hour (Cycle)

$12 /hour (Rollerblade)

Gym/Fitness $2-$15 /entry
Baseball Batting Cage $40 for 11 tokens
Trampoline Park $10-$16 /hour

#4 Outdoor/Nature Adventures

The best type of activity for couples and families on the weekends. Also the category with the lowest cost and highest calorie burn.

  Estimated Cost
Treetop Walk Free
Southern Ridges Walk Free
Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Free
Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve Free
Coney Island Free
Pulau Ubin $5 /person (2-way ferry)

$5-$15 (Bicycle rental)

Forest Adventure $46 (Adult)
$34 (Kids Course)

#5 Water Activities

For all the water lovers out there, your cheapest option for some fun water activities would be at Jurong East Swimming Complex. With slides and a lazy river, this scaled-down version of Wild Wild Wet makes a more affordable option, especially for west-siders.

However, for the ultimate weekend of water activities, you could choose to make a trip to the newest attraction, Adventure Cove, instead.

  Estimated Cost
Adventure Cove $36 (Adult One-Day Pass)
$26 (Child One-Day Pass)
Wave House Sentosa $40 (One Hour)
Wild Wild Wet $24 (Adult, Public)
$17 (Child, Public)$18 (Adult, NTUC Member)

$13 (Child, NTUC Member)

Jurong East Swimming Complex $2 /entry (Adult)

$1 /entry (Child)

#6 For The Kids

Keeping your child occupied is a difficult task for many. Opt to bring them out for a family day, away from their toys and electronics.

Large playgrounds have become more common and are also free of charge. Enjoy the family time while your young one exhausts their energy at these places.

  Estimated Cost
Singapore Zoo $22 /child

$33 /adult

Jurong Bird Park $19 /child

$29 /adult

Skyline Sentosa Luge $18 /person
SEA Aquarium $22 /child
