With Mother’s Day just around the corner, it is still not too late to plan a date with your mother or buy her a gift.
Expensive gifts are not necessarily the most meaningful ones. Your mother might just want to spend time with you amidst your busy schedule. Besides the usual bouquet of flowers and ‘Happy Mothers’ Day’ texts, here are a few gift ideas for every budget.
$0: Something From The Heart
Making a nice card or a handmade gift for your mother requires time and effort on your part but is a great way to show your mom your gratitude and love for her. A gift which is handmade and full of sincerity is priceless. A few hugs and kisses would be the icing on the cake!
$28: Explore Local Places Together
Singapore’s one of the top tourist destinations in Southeast Asia. Explore your own country with your mother by bringing her to places both of you don’t often go to, such as Gardens By The Bay. The entrance fee is $28 to visit 2 conservatories. Take a few beautiful photographs to keep for memories’ sake, and also to give your mother a new background photo for her smartphone.
You can also bring her to Jewel Changi Airport for a meal at popular outlets like Shake Shack or Burger & Lobster (coming soon in May 2019). Take a walk in the Shiseido Forest Valley and immerse yourself in this tranquil indoor garden. Don’t forget to take photos at the iconic HSBC Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall at 40 metres high!
For the more activity and sports-loving families, going to places like East Coast Park to cycle would make a great family day.
$60: Do An Activity Together
Some art spaces in Singapore offer you the chance to make your own paintings! Places such as Artify Studio work on a pay-what-you-wish system with a social element. Other art jamming studios include Art Jam Studio, Lionheart Studioand Arteastiq. Bring your mother there to let your creative juices flow and to see who has a greater knack for art.
Not keen on art? Other activities you can do together with your mom include creating your perfume suited to your preferred scent at Je’taime, moulding your own pottery to bring home at Urth & Phire or, if both of you are bookworms, spend a day in The Book Café.
$80: Dinner Date
For the busy bees, even time for meal with your parents could be difficult to come by. Set aside the time to bring your mother out for a good meal with her favourite food. This could also mean cooking for her or eating her homecooked food.
$100: Curated Box Of Surprise
Sites such OkimochiBox sell the concept of a surprise with their gift boxes. Based on the information you provide them about the recipient, they curate a box of items with the aim of surprising and putting a smile on the recipient’s face. You won’t know what’s in the box until the recipient receives it!
A gift box for Mother’s Day starts from $100 for a medium box and you can opt for a large box at $200 to increase the quantity and value of items in the box. They also provide free delivery, special gift-wrapping and a greeting card. But don’t be surprised if you are just as surprised as your mother when she receives the gift box.
$200: Spa Relaxation
Bring your mom out for a few hours of relaxation!
At a spa, you can both get a massage and/or facial together. This is a great treat for mothers that are always busy at work or housewives that commit themselves to cooking for the family and keeping the house tidy. Take this chance to catch up with your mother while both of you enjoy the relaxing treatment in the same room.
If you have the ability to spend more and have time on your hands (not to mention annual leave to spare), plan a holiday trip with your mother! This does not need to be a 2-week long vacation to a faraway country. Even somewhere nearby, such as Bintan or Batam, for a short 3D2N getaway would be great to spend quality time with your mother. For a more relaxing time, you can choose to book a resort with various facilities and services such as a private pool.
Of course there are other great gift options out there and you would know your mom’s preferences best. Make the most of this Mother’s Day to remind your mother how much you love and appreciate her. No gift is better than the gift of time, especially when you as a working adult are unable to spend quality time with your mother frequently.
