The haze in Singapore has worsened significantly this week, with air quality in the west of the island experiencing the highest recorded hourly PM2.5 reading since 2015. At 3pm on Wednesday, 14th October 2026, it reached 288 micrograms per cubic metre, placing us in the “very high” zone for readings exceeding 250. This has prompted the government to begin the phased distribution of N95 masks to eligible Singaporeans.
Although the original plan was to wait until the 24-hour PSI reading crossed 200 before distributing N95 masks, the very high PM2.5 levels were enough to start setting up collection points for eligible Singaporeans. The 24-hour PSI reading would eventually cross the 200 mark on Thursday, hitting a high of 212 in the West.
Who Are Eligible For The Free N95 Masks
Those in the Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation can collect 2 N95 masks from any collection point. This also applies to CHAS Orange and CHAS Blue cardholders, Medical Fee Exemption Card holders, and recipients of ComCare Assistance.
These Singaporeans may collect their masks at Community Clubs, vending machines at selected public transport hubs, Social Service Offices, and People’s Association venues using their NRIC.
Pregnant women, children aged 7 to 16, and individuals with relevant medical conditions such as asthma are also eligible to collect masks, but only from Community Clubs using their NRIC.
Please check the HazeMaskGoWhere website for collection locations and mask availability before heading to a collection point.
Sufficient Stocks Of N95 Masks
For the rest of us, getting N95 masks from retailers seems to be our only option right now. Unfortunately, several outlets are out of stock right now because of increased demand.
In its 14th October 2026 daily advisory, the National Environment Agency assured that there are “sufficient stocks of N95 masks in retailer’s warehouses and government stockpiles”. They also noted that the Haze Task Force is “working closely with retailers to replenish stocks and ensure the availability of N95 masks to the public.”
Furthermore, in its updated haze advisory, the Ministry of Health confirmed that KN95, FFP2, and KF94 masks are all equivalent to N95 masks. They said these masks are “effective in reducing exposure to haze particles”, and that the “differing names reflect their respective national standards.
Price Guide For N95 Masks In Singapore
The N95 mask meets the air filtration standard set by the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The “N” indicates that it is not resistant to oil, while “95” represents its ability to filter out 95% of airborne particles.
Beware of counterfeit products that may be misrepresenting their NIOSH approval. Notably, NIOSH does not approve any type of respiratory protection for children, so any N95 that claims to be approved for children does not have NIOSH approval.
