Cost Guide To International School Fees In Singapore

Would you pay over $50,000 a year for your child’s schooling?

For foreign families moving to Singapore with children, choosing a school can be one of their biggest decisions. International schools are also an option for some permanent residents who want a particular curriculum, language of instruction or an education pathway that makes it easier to move between countries.

The financial commitment can be substantial. At the schools covered below, annual tuition or published school fees range from about $24,000 to more than $58,000, depending on the campus and year group. Tuition is only part of the bill, with application fees, enrolment charges, development levies and everyday expenses adding to what parents actually pay.

Before comparing schools, parents should understand what each published figure includes. A fee that already incorporates a building fund cannot be compared directly with tuition that excludes a compulsory facility charge. The examples below use published 2026/27 schedules, with GST included.

How Tuition Fees Vary By Tier And Age

Fees generally rise as children move into higher grades, but campus, curriculum and included charges also matter. Comparing the same age group across schools gives parents a more useful starting point than relying on a school’s advertised starting fee.

The following examples show how widely annual fees can vary. They are a guide to the published charges, rather than a ranking of school quality.

One-Off Costs Before Your Child Even Starts

Application fees are payable before a place is confirmed and may be non-refundable. UWCSEA charges $627 for a single-campus day-student application and $1,254 for both campuses. SAS charges $2,500. Applying to several schools can therefore create a significant expense before parents have accepted an offer.

Accepting a place brings further charges. UWCSEA has a one-off enrolment fee of $4,992, while SAS’s registration fee is $8,660 or $9,900, depending on the admissions lane. Tanglin lists an enrolment fee and a capital levy of $4,500 each, in addition to its application fee.

Parents should distinguish these charges from recurring levies. UWCSEA’s development levy is $9,537 in the first year and $5,166 in subsequent years. A lower bill after enrolment does not mean the levy disappears. Ask for both a first-year breakdown and the expected recurring bill before accepting a place.

Annual, Recurring Add-On Costs

Transport can add thousands of dollars a year. SAS publishes two-way bus fees of $1,320 to $3,500 per semester, equivalent to $2,640 to $7,000 over two semesters. Where a family lives and whether a child needs the bus can therefore make a noticeable difference to the total budget.

Meals, uniforms and activities also need separate allowances. Some schools include more of these costs than others, while specialist coaching, music lessons and trips may be charged separately. Buying uniforms is not necessarily a one-off expense either, as children outgrow them or require replacements.

Devices and examination charges can become more relevant as children grow older. Parents should ask which items are compulsory, which are optional and when payment is due. A trip or laptop purchase can create a large bill in a particular term even if the annual budget looks manageable.

Families with younger children comparing international early-years programmes with other options can also refer to our guide to childcare operator fees. The relevant comparison is what the family will actually pay for the hours and services it needs.

What’s A Realistic Total Annual Cost?

Consider a continuing Grades 2–5 student at UWCSEA. Published tuition and the recurring development levy total $45,909. If a family separately budgets $4,000 for transport, $2,500 for meals, $300 for replacement uniforms and $2,000 for activities, the illustrative annual total is $54,709. These allowances are budgeting assumptions, not school quotations, and exclude any other compulsory costs.

For a continuing SAS student enrolled from August 2017 onwards, the published annual total is $49,610 for Kindergarten to Grade 5 and $55,750 for high school. These amounts include tuition, the facility fee and re-enrolment fee, before bus transport and other extras. First-year charges are higher because application and registration fees apply.

At OWIS Digital Campus, Grades 7–10 tuition and the building fee total $35,065. Adding the same illustrative $8,800 allowance gives $43,865, before other applicable charges. Families choosing a different campus should use that campus’s schedule rather than carry this estimate across.

Cost Is Just One Factor

Cost is a practical constraint, but curriculum, teaching, support needs and whether a place is available all matter. Parents should check availability directly and consider how a change of school might affect their child’s learning, particularly close to major examinations.

The bigger financial question is whether the family can sustain the commitment across the years its child is likely to attend. Allow for higher grades, future fee increases and siblings joining the school, alongside school fees in Singapore’s local education system where that is a relevant option.

Housing and transport decisions can also affect the overall cost. Before committing, compare the first-year bill, the recurring annual bill and the likely cost over your expected stay. A school that fits this year’s budget should also leave enough room for the family’s other financial goals.
