Inside Token2049: What It’s Really Like To Attend As A First-Timer In Singapore

Where the world crypto bros meet.

Every September, Singapore becomes the epicentre of the global crypto and Web3 scene when TOKEN2049 takes over Marina Bay Sands. What started as a niche gathering a few years ago has evolved into one of the world’s biggest crypto conferences.

Having attended only side events in the past years, I decided to experience the main conference myself this year.

I walked into the registration hall at 9.30 a.m. and was immediately swallowed by the crowd. Getting the media pass was quick, but the bag checks slowed the flow as the crowd funnelled into the exhibition halls.

If you are coming by taxi or ride-hailing, ask to be dropped off at Gardens by the Bay (just opposite Marina Bay Sands Convention Hall) to skip the long jam turning into MBS. Alternatively, taking the train to the Downtown MRT will be a better idea.

Walking into TOKEN2049 feels like stepping into a world where modern finance meets festival. Everywhere you look, there’s contrast.

With Four Floors And 25,000 Attendees, Planning Your Route Here Feels Like Navigating Disneyland

With so much happening across multiple floors, it’s impossible to wander and hope to catch everything. I’d starred a few must-sees, including a talk by Donald Trump Jr., and the TOKEN2049 app pinged me just in time to head over. Even then, the room filled up fast. Between the overlapping panels and endless booths, moving through the venue felt less like strolling an expo and more like strategising your next ride in a theme park.

The event app made it easier to stay organised, from bookmarking sessions to finding your way around the four floors.

Donald Trump Jr. drew one of the largest crowds of the event during his forum session.

Exploring The Booths And The Breaks In Between

The exhibition floors were a mix of product demos, interactive games, and networking zones, with even the food and drink options tailored to the crowd. Between protein shakes for the gym regulars, coconut juice for the health-conscious, and hawker favourites like laksa and chicken rice for those craving something local, the choices seemed to anticipate every type of attendee.

Nifty Gateway Studio’s booth turned NFT displays into a gallery experience.

SpaceCoin’s booth combined sleek design and a showcase of its CTC-0 nanosatellite.

A quick spin powered this juice, one of the more creative refreshment booths at the event.

Biggest Takeaway From TOKEN2049

This year’s discussions were driven by infrastructure, regulation, and practical use cases, a clear shift from the trading hype that once dominated the space. Panels examined how blockchain could integrate into established financial systems, from tokenised assets to cross-border payments, making it easier to see where the next phase of growth in the space could come from.

Discussions around stablecoins and the U.S. dollar offered a rare note of optimism for the sector. The argument was that a well-backed digital dollar, such as a stablecoin supported by U.S. Treasuries, could help preserve confidence in the global financial system while accelerating mainstream adoption of digital assets.

With traditional banks sharing the stage alongside crypto founders, Token2049 felt less like a tech expo and more like a serious conversation about the future of finance and one of the most engaging events I’ve attended this year.

Walking out after the event, I realised TOKEN2049 wasn’t just about crypto, it was about curiosity. Whether you were a banker, a developer, or just a first-timer like me, everyone was trying to understand where finance is heading next. It was noisy, chaotic, and at times overwhelming, but undeniably exciting.
