Have Excess KrisFlyer Miles But Not Keen To Travel Overseas? Here Are 5 KrisFlyer Experiences That You Can Redeem Your Miles For Instead

Some experiences money just can’t buy.

If you have clicked on this article, then chances are that you are one of the many who has accumulated plenty of KrisFlyer Miles, but don’t intend to travel any time soon amidst a global pandemic even as Singapore opens more Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VTLs).

Welcome to the club.

Apart from redeeming flights for award tickets on economy, premium economy, business, first or even suite class, miles that we accumulate can also be used to redeem numerous and diverse deals ranging from dining, shopping, hotel stays and car rentals.

Enter The KrisFlyer Experience

However, if none of the usual rewards for redeeming miles interests you, you might be glad to know that Singapore Airlines have curated a special list of KrisFlyer Experiences that we can only redeem and enjoy through our KrisFlyer miles.

In this article, we identify 5 KrisFlyer Experience redemptions that could be worth spending your extra miles points, and at the same time, create a memorable experience for yourself and your partner

#1 Learn The Skills Of A Leather Craftsman – 10,000 KrisFlyer Miles Per Participant

In a 3-hr workshop, a leather craftsman from Bynd Artisan will teach you the necessary basic skills and technique when it comes to handling leather. You will create a one-of-a-kind cardholder with a piece of European-sourced natural grained leather that’s pre-stamped with SIA batik motif.

At the end of the workshop, you will get to bring home your masterpiece along with bragging rights on how you are ‘skilled’ in leather crafting. Time to update your LinkedIn resume!

If you’re interested in booking the workshop for a group of friends or family but do not wish to burn your miles for them, they can purchase the workshop for SGD78. In other words, by redeeming your miles for this workshop, you are getting 0.78 cents per miles.

# 2 Become A Pilot For One Day – 20,000 to 38,000 KrisFlyer Miles

Live your aviation dream and become a pilot in a Virtual Reality flight simulator. Learn from real life professional pilots on how to captain a Boeing or operate a fighter jet in realistic, ultra-advanced flight simulator.

Guided by licensed pilots from Flight Experience, you will be instructed through takeoff and landing. You will get a taste of what it feels like to fly through a thunderstorm or land at some of the world’s most amazing airports.

This exercise requires 38,000 miles for two participants. Alternatively, if you don’t have enough miles but really want to try how it’s like flying a plane, you can also book this experience for a whooping SGD425! This means you are getting 1.1 cents per miles.

For parents whose children are fascinated about planes, why not stir their interest as a potential career pathway with an enrichment programme? The Extended Young Aviation Enrichment Program is suitable for anyone aged 6 – 18 years old. Who better to show your kids will learn what it takes to be a pilot than actual licensed pilots!

The programme requires 20,000 miles per participant and the programme offered to KrisFlyer members is slightly different in terms of the packaging and time allotted per activity. Under the KrisFlyer redemption, the activities are longer, and there are extra gifts to take home at the end of it.

Without the KrisFlyer promo, one would have to pay SGD120 per child, equating to a 0.6 cents per mile valuation.

#3 Bon Voyage Aboard Dream Cruise – 50,000 KrisFlyer Miles For 2 Passengers

Spend a holiday away from home, on the seas, when you and your partner board Dream Cruise’s World Dream. Enjoy a 2-night cruise in a stateroom with balcony and unwind with unique programmes and workshops organised by SIA. The bespoke chartered cruise will also feature Nordic Christmas-themed festivities such as a Nordic Village, Santa Express and a Christmas Market!

As it’s a chartered cruise specially curated with SIA initiatives, the programmes, workshops, commemorative items and gifts will not be available on standard Dream World cruises.

For 50,000 KrisFlyer Miles, gift yourself and your partner a trip never to forget. Be it a milestone, an anniversary or Christmas, there’s always something worth celebrating and being grateful for.

While this is an experience that money can’t buy. Standard Dream World Cruise for 2 nights in a stateroom with a balcony would roughly cost about SGD800 to 882 which calculates to 1.6 to 1.7 cents per mile.

#4 Set Sail On World’s First Dog Cruise – 50,000 Or 60,000 KrisFlyer Miles For 2 Adults And A Dog

Imagine yourself accompanied by your partner along with your furry best friend, set against a glowing sunset as a backdrop. You three are onboard The Royal Albatross where all of you would be served a gastronomic menu.

Throughout the 2.5 hrs cruise, you can expect a welcome mocktail and a 3-course plated dinner that comes with unlimited soft drinks. Even your doggo would be treated to a 3-course plated dinner and you can opt to have your doggo dine at the table with you just like any other family member.

For two adults and one small to medium dog below 20kg, 50,000 KrisFlyer Miles is needed for redemption. If your dog is above 20kg, you would need to use 60,000 KrisFlyer miles instead.

If you have insufficient miles for this activity, you can still book this at SGD450 for small to medium dogs, or SGD 490 for large dogs, bringing it to 0.9 cents per mile for small to medium dogs and 0.8 cents per mile for large dogs

#5 Enjoy A Three Michelin Star One-Of-A-Kind Dining – 65,000 Krisflyer Miles For 2 Pax

Raking in the most miles for redemption in the KrisFlyer Experiences is the set menu for two by Celebrity Chef Jacob Jan Boerma.

With three Michelin stars to his name, the celebrity chef recreated a set menu that resembles as close as possible to a dinner in the White Room in Amsterdam. Diners will be served with his signature beef with roasted sambal dressing and open ravioli of kohlrabi. Chef Boerma also prepared two exclusive dishes made for Singapore – in the turbot, cauliflower with a hint of curry, and the eggplant cannelloni.

Diners will be selected at random to meet the Dutch Chef virtually and will be allocated 3 minutes to chat with the Chef.

This one-of-a-kind dining experience can only be redeemed through KrisFlyer Experience and the venue is specifically reserved only for such guests. Additional paying guests will not be entertained, and it is not available for walk-ins. Talk about experiences money just can’t buy, this one is right at the top!

As there’s no way we can find out how much such a stellar dining experience would cost in Singapore’s restaurant, we did our own estimates based on the restaurant prices at the White House in Amsterdam for a five-course set meal and converted it Singapore currency. The value of this set menu is priced at EUR 99. After taxes, it’s estimated to be around SGD 360. This gives us a value of between 0.55 cents per mile.

Converting Miles For KrisFlyer Experiences Is A Different Way To Enjoy Your Miles

While miles lovers typically accumulate miles for free award tickets, redeeming your miles for various types of KrisFlyer experiences may be an alternate redemption strategy that makes sense, particularly during a COVID-19 pandemic period where overseas travel may not be possible.

Whether it’s to spend quality time on a cruise, letting your child experience how it’s like flying a plane or having a three Michelin Star dinner date, your excess KrisFlyer Miles can be used for some of these experiences this year if you don’t intend to keep your miles for any future travel in the short-term.
