There are many reasons why Singaporeans travel to Johor Bahru, whether it’s for a day trip or a short weekend getaway. A worthwhile holiday in Malaysia would include travelling to the further parts of Malaysia, such as Kuala Lumpur, Genting, or Penang, where thrilling and exciting theme parks and activities can be found, but what if you could have all that in Johor Bahru itself.
Spend a family-fun day at theme parks and water parks located just a few minutes away from the Johor Bahru checkpoint, and as soon as you’re done, you have the convenience of heading back home within an hour or two. With that, here are some of Johor Bahru’s theme parks and water parks that you can consider going to while on your short get-away.
#1 LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, Iskandar Puteri
If you’re a fan of LEGOs, then the LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort at Iskandar Puteri is not to be missed. Opened in 2012 at a total cost of RM 910 million, it is Malaysia’s first international theme park, spanning an area that is equal to more than 50 full-size football pitches.
With an area that large, you get to enjoy three attractions in one-place. There’s the LEGOLAND Park, LEGOLAND Water Park, and SEA LIFE that you can enjoy with your little ones, depending on what they are up for.
But if you’re wondering whether you will have enough time to enjoy them all in one day, fret not, LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort also offers accommodation at its LEGOLAND Hotel – meaning you can stay longer and enjoy all the attractions. In fact, you can choose from four themed accommodation options, such as Pirate, Kingdom, Adventure, and Ninjago, to make your sleepover unforgettable. If you’re going with a big family, you can select rooms that sleep up to 5 people. LEGOLAND Hotel even promises a LEGO gift in every room to make your stay that much more special. Begin your visit by exploring the LEGOLAND Park and trying out over 40 rides and attractions across the 8 themed areas. For example, the Imagination themed area offers five rides and attractions that allow the little ones to build and race their own LEGO car, get a bird’s-eye view of the park from the Observation Tower, or enjoy 4D movies at LEGO studios. Most of these attractions, except for one, have no height restrictions, making them suitable for all ages.
Alternatively, given our hot weather, you might want to instead take a dip in the lazy river at LEGOLAND Water Park or try out the over 20 slides, rides, and water games. Most of the rides have a height restriction of at least 102 cm, so make sure if you’re bringing your kids along that they are taller than that to have a splashing good time!
If the weather is unpredictable, you could instead hop to SEA LIFE Malaysia, an underwater aquarium that features over 13,000 sea creatures from 120 species. Go through 11 habitat zones to learn more about the beautiful marine creatures that live hidden from our daily view.
Ticket Prices And Other Details:
Legoland Malaysia Resort offers annual passes, which allow unlimited entry to all three attractions. Take note that the attraction parks and selected rides might be closed on certain dates for maintenance. Besides unlimited entry, the annual passes also offer discounts on retail products, food and beverages, hotel accommodations, and more.

#2 Austin Heights Water & Adventure Park, Taman Mount Austin
Nestled amongst Mount Austin’s residential area is the neighbourhood tropical theme park, Austin Heights Water and Adventure Park. Spanning an area of more than 33,000 sqm, this 3-in-1 adventure park offers a water park, an adventure park, and a sports and leisure park that are sure to provide you and your loved ones with some friendly competition.
Unlike typical family-friendly theme parks with roller coasters and machine-operated rides, you can instead enjoy seven thrilling and adventurous high element rope courses across 51 elements and challenges at Austin Heights Adventure Park. To get you accustomed to the obstacles, you can start off with three indoor courses at a height of five meters, starting with a short glide through the flying fox. Thereafter, the difficulty level increases exponentially, and you’ll be engaging in outdoor climbing, trapezing, crawling, jumping, and scaling your way up rope walls, one-inch wooden cylinders, tightropes, and more. Finish the exhilarating course in style by ziplining back to the main building.
Located right next to the adventure park, Austin Heights Water Park provides you with cool relief from the hot weather. Slip and slide through seven twisting slides of all shapes and sizes. Engage in some high-speed racing side-by-side with your family. Kids will get to enjoy a tropical themed water playground as well. Do note that toddlers under the age of three will ned to use a swimming diaper. If you’ve had enough of the slides, go for a few rounds in the lazy river before getting back to the fun. For the adults, get ready to rave all day at the wave pool equipped with concert lighting and music.
If you see dark clouds forming when you’re there, you could instead go to the sports and leisure park, which offers indoor sports and games. Another way you can escape from the summer’s heat is through the indoor ice-skating rink. Get your skates on and glide along the smooth artificial ice, or you can bounce your way through the indoor trampoline park and try to shoot some hoops with friends and family. To get your blood pumping, race in the go-karts at the indoor Drift Kart arena. Take note that ticket prices are priced individually for each activity.
Getting to Mount Austin takes about 40 minutes via the Tuas Second Link. If you’re coming by train, it takes about 25 minutes from Johor Bahru City Centre. Austin Heights Water and Adventure Park offers day tickets, annual passes, and bundles.
