Why There Is An #EveryDayInvestor In Each Of Us

Discover the EveryDayInvestor in you at our #EveryDayInvestor night on 13 November at the SGX Centre.

Growing up, I used to think that investors were a special group of people—wealthy, intelligent individuals with exclusive access to opportunities, resources, and networks that enabled them to make money work for them.

At one point during my teenage years, I even considered “investor” as a job title. For a selected few professional investors, this assumption holds true: fund managers, investment analysts, and family office executives make a career out of evaluating and managing investments. Legendary figures like Warren Buffett, Peter Lynch, and Ray Dalio exemplify this professional path, and their stories often shape our perception of what it means to be an investor. As a youth, I didn’t think of myself as an “investor”.

However, the idea that investing is reserved for a select few couldn’t be further from the truth.

Investing, much like fitness or wellness, is something that anyone can incorporate into their daily lives. Imagine if someone told you that only Lebron James and Cristiano Ronaldo could be athletes. Or that only Max Verstappen or Lando Norris are considered as drivers. Not true, isn’t it?

The way we see it is that investing isn’t an exclusive profession but rather an essential part of our lives that we want to be good at. Just like we would choose to be fitter so that we can live a healthier life, becoming a good investor can also allow us to enjoy a better life.

Introducing The #EveryDayInvestor

When we want to get fit, it’s natural to look to fitness icons like Cristiano Ronaldo, Chris Hemsworth, or even Brad Pitt in Fight Club as inspiration. Their physiques are impressive, and it’s easy to see why we’re drawn to them. However, these bodies are more aspirational than achievable for most of us.

Similarly, studying the investment strategies of legends like Warren Buffett and George Soros can be inspiring. Still, their approaches often reflect a level of access, resources and influence that many of us don’t have. For instance, we’re unlikely to buy shares in a major company like Coca-Cola and have the clout to be activist investors to influence management decisions.

While these investing icons set a high bar, their methods may not be practical for everyday investors, who often juggle work, family commitments and personal goals. Instead, we think learning to build consistent, manageable investing habits within our means is more valuable. By focusing on accessible strategies tailored to our unique financial situations, we can make steady progress, grow our wealth and feel empowered to take control of our financial future as everyday investors.

This is why DollarsAndSense started the #EveryDayInvestor movement more than a year ago. Our aim is to feature investors from all walks of life, from the university gym-goer investing in his future to the mom who invests for her kids. We hope that through this movement, we can inspire more people in Singapore to take their investment journey seriously, just like they would take their fitness journey seriously by training for Hyrox.

To kickstart our investment journey, DollarsAndSense is excited to host our first #EveryDayInvestor night on Wednesday, 13 November, at 7 pm at the SGX Centre. Join us as we dive into what it truly means to be an #EveryDayInvestor in Singapore. Learn how to start your investment journey, achieve financial success and make investing a regular part of your life.

Organised in collaboration with SGX and Tiger Brokers, this event features special guests like sibling duo Aaron and Sara Wee from the popular TikTok channel The Weeblings. Currently on a mission to build a $1 million portfolio, they’ll share real-world tips and insights on growing wealth as everyday investors.

Basketball enthusiast and seasoned investor Thomas Chua will also join us. Once a Tax Officer, Thomas left his job in 2021 to teach others about investing through his Steady Compounding Investing Academy platform. He’ll share his unique journey and practical tips for fellow #EveryDayInvestors.

Don’t miss this chance to meet Aaron, Sara, Thomas, and other inspiring investment personalities. Plus, enjoy desserts on us and score some exclusive merch we will give away.

The #EveryDayInvestor night will be held on 13 November at 7 p.m. at the SGX Centre. Registration is free and will close once the maximum number of attendees is reached.
