The search for talent is always ongoing for every employer. Talent is even more important in today’s knowledge economy where businesses’ competitive edges are built by the talent they hire. Yet, talent must be nurtured and honed by experienced. For companies looking to grow their own talent pool, internships are a way to nurture young people and build a talent pipeline.
The Global Ready Talent Programme by Enterprise Singapore aims to help Singapore companies do just that by providing funding support for companies to build a pipeline of global-ready talent by exposing more Singaporeans to internships and overseas work opportunities.
Here’s how Singapore companies can tap on the Global Ready Talent Programme (GRT) to hire interns with funding support.
The Global Ready Talent Programme (GRT) Supports Both Local And Overseas Internships
Under the GRT, Singapore companies can offer internships to students in Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), which include Institute of Technical Education (ITEs), Polytechnics and Universities. Funding support of up to 50% on the monthly internship stipend will be given for local internships.
Companies can offer overseas internships if they are operating in overseas markets (preferably in Southeast Asia, China and India). Funding support of up to 50% on the monthly internship stipend will be given to eligible companies while additional monthly subsistence allowance and lump sum travel allowance will be given to the students via their schools.
Companies can also offer hybrid internships where the internship is split across Singapore and overseas markets for the duration of the internship. However, the company must offer a continuous four-week internship stint in Singapore and two-week internship stint in their overseas market at minimum.

What Companies Are Eligible For The Global Ready Talent Programme (GRT)?
To be eligible for GRT, companies must be incorporated in Singapore with a minimum of 30% local shareholding.
They must also be in a financially viable position to start and complete the internship. They should be able to offer interns the minimum monthly allowance of $800 for ITE and Polytechnic students and $1,000 for University students. This amount is before funding support.
They should also have strong Human Resource practices and be committed to talent development. Companies are expected to provide a mentor or supervisor to offer student guidance during the course of the internship. They should also provide a structured internship opportunity with clarity in the internship job scope.
For overseas internships, the company must have existing overseas operations, positive business outlook and strong growth plans. Overseas internships should allow the intern to gain regional market knowledge.
Trade Associations (TACs) Will Evaluate And Qualify Singapore Companies Onboard The GRT
While the funding for the programme is from Enterprise Singapore, Enterprise Singapore will partner Trade Associations (TACs) to evaluate and qualify promising Singapore companies to come onboard the programme. They will also play an active role in matching suitable student interns to participating Singapore companies.
Companies should approach the relevant Approved-in-Principle (AIP) partners to apply for the GRT:
