Despite Singapore being a safe country with low crime, some offices may have sensitive materials or expensive equipment that must be protected. Aside from this, some layers of security could cause staff to be inconvenienced when accessing the office. Hence, a good security system in the office needs to increase the difficulty for intruders while maintaining or increasing the level of convenience for staff.
#1 Smart Lock – Under $150
Smart locks allow convenient access to the office using fingerprints, passcodes, NFC cards, or even an app. The TTlock app has functions to allow access to the office only on certain days or at certain times of the day, and it can even track which staff member accessed the office at what time. As an added bonus, this can be used to track when each staff member enters the office for attendance purposes.
For offices with a glass door, this lock can be installed within 15 minutes onto your glass door using an adhesive.
Smart locks are typically battery-powered, which could cause issues if they run out of power. Nevertheless, most smart locks have a USB port that faces the outside, which allows users to use a power bank to temporarily power the lock. In addition to this, most smart locks also typically feature backup keys, which can be used in the event the lock fails. As such, it is advisable to have the keys accessible via an alternative method.

#2 Security Cameras – Under $50
Security camera products are readily available these days and allow for easy monitoring of areas within its view. Xiaomi’s security cameras typically have motion-sensing functions and start recording when motion is detected. Thereafter, the footage is uploaded directly onto Xiaomi’s servers and kept there for 24 hours. If an intruder damages or steals the camera, the footage can still be retrieved from the server. Users can stream the video feed live when necessary and even receive alerts when motion is detected within the area.
Security cameras can monitor entryways and serve as an additional layer of security by tracking personnel who enter and exit the office.
#3 Window/Door/Cupboard Sensor – Under $5
This sensor is useful for detecting if a window, door or cupboard is opened or closed, and can also provide information about when it was opened or closed. While it may not be able to prevent access, it can be used to trigger alerts when sensitive areas are accessed. Modifications do not need to be made to the door or window since these sensors can be pasted on the doorway or window frame.

#4 Wall-Mounted Keypress – Under $10
Some companies may want to have a keypress inside the office or perhaps even mounted on the outside of the office if staff need a backup key solution to the smart lock. This could be a useful way of securing keys to different rooms, cupboards, or cabinets in the office.
#5 Digital Cabinet Lock – Under $20
Cabinet locks can be troublesome if keys are required, and this may sometimes cause problems if staff forget to bring their keys. Fortunately, there are solutions for this. Fingerprint locks allow only authorised staff to access the necessary cabinets. The downside of fingerprint locks is that if the authorised personnel are not present but wish to grant someone else access to the lock, they will not be able to do so. Password code locks get around the problem where the passcode can be given when needed to grant access.
These locks can be conveniently installed in place of most cabinet locks and can even be used to allow staff to secure their belongings safely. As usual, most of these locks use batteries, which can be charged or changed from the outside.
These locks can also be easily installed on letterboxes and can be uninstalled if the premises need to be returned to their original condition.

#6 Digital Doorbell – Under $100
Digital doorbells are useful for seeing who is outside before opening the door. They could also be useful if staff are expecting a delivery and wish to be notified when the deliveryman arrives. Some digital doorbells stream the video feed to a display device housed on the inside, while others can stream the video feed to the internet, which can be accessed via an app.
As an added benefit, the digital doorbell can also function as an additional entryway camera. Most digital doorbells come with motion-activated recording and will take a snapshot or short video clip when motion is detected.
Have Backup Systems
While electronic access control systems may provide convenience to staff, one possible issue could present itself if the lock runs out of battery. Hence, it is advisable that if you wish to use smart or digital lock systems for your office, alternative access methods are available so that staff can continue to access the office even if the lock batteries run out.
