Love it or loathe it, USS is one of the go-to destinations for tourists visiting our sunny island, with its world-famous attractions like Battlestar Galactica and Transformers thrill rides, as well as being the venue of popular annual events like the upcoming Halloween Horror Nights.
At the same time, there is also a perception that visiting USS is a costly affair, so we locals tend to shy away from the park and spend our leisure time on less expensive activities.
However, having an enjoyable time at USS does not have to be that expensive. Here are 6 ways how you can save money on your next visit and still have a great time!
#1 Avoid Buying Drinks In USS
All that walking around is bound to leave you thirsty, which means you will need more than just one drink. Given a soft drink cost about $5, bringing a water bottle is a great way for you to save money.
Estimated Savings: $5 – $10
#2 Buy Your USS Tickets Online
Buying your USS tickets online not only allows you to beat the queues at the ticketing counter but also enables you to take advantage of online promotions available. By booking online, the tickets for a USS adult one-day ticket goes for $73 and a one-day child ticket will cost $58.
Resorts World Sentosa typically has some online card deals with meal and freebie bundles. These deals can help us to save about 10% to 20% from the gifts that accompany them.
Visitors can also purchase USS tickets through third-party retailers like Klook and Qoo10. Klook often organises seasonal promotions, while Qoo10 offers many discount coupons. If you’ve been an active user, it could be cheaper to buy your USS tickets through these apps.
Estimated Savings: 10% to 20% depending on the card deal
#3 Comb For Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) Vouchers On Carousell
You can usually find unused RWS meal and retail vouchers heavily discounted on Carousell, as sellers are desperate to clear their vouchers before they expire. Some of these vouchers can be used at food and retail outlets within USS. However, as with items listed on Carousell, caveat emptor applies. As the buyer, you are responsible for making sure your purchase is legitimate.
Estimated Savings: Between 15% to 20% of your meal and retail expenditure around RWS.

#4 Get Your Souvenirs Online!
As with all theme parks, there are many retail outlets in USS selling exclusive memorabilia which usually go for a premium price. If you want to save money and comfortable with a slight variation in design, you can consider getting cheaper souvenirs online.
Buying your souvenirs online also reduces the risk of impulse purchases, as you have more time to consider your purchases and compare prices across different online retailers.
Estimated Savings: Depends on how much souvenirs you’re buying.

#5 Have your lunch outside USS
Inside the park, a simple lunch can easily cost $15. To save money, you can head to the Mcdonalds or Malaysian Food Street located outside the park, where a typical lunch will cost you between $6 to $8.
Of course, for the cheapest lunch, you can leave Sentosa and proceed to Seah Imm Food Centre on mainland Singapore, where lunch costs about $3. Just remember to walk back to Sentosa or you will need to spend another $2 for the bus ride back.
Estimated Savings: $7 to $12

#6 Take a train to RWS instead or a car
This is for those who do not own a car or drive. Getting to Sentosa is going to cost you, unless if you are staying at Sentosa Cove.
With the integrated MRT lines we have in Singapore, it won’t be too difficult to find your way to RWS.
You can take a train from your place to Habourfront station which is located at VivoCity shopping mall. From there, head on up to the 4rd floor of the shopping mall and you will see the Sentosa Express monorail line. The station is overground and integrated in the mall, so you can still get air con while you are waiting for your turn.
The Sentosa Express charges a $4 entry fare and you can explore Sentosa thereafter for free for rides within Sentosa Island and for outbound rides.
A contactless card can be purchased at VivoCity Station, and payment can be made using cash, NETS or credit card.
Ride 2 stops and alight at Imbiah Station and RWS will be a 1 minute walk away (70 metres).
Estimated Savings: At least $15
