4 Ways The Singapore Passport Has Grown Stronger Since COVID

The Singapore passport is the most powerful 3 years in a row.

The Singapore passport is currently regarded as the strongest in the world, according to the Henley Passport Index released earlier this year. It has held the top spot for three consecutive years, thanks to its visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 193 destinations. However, this was not always the case. Global travel was heavily restricted during the COVID-19 pandemic, when even the most powerful passports offered limited mobility.

As travel restrictions eased, governments around the world adjusted their visa policies to support economic recovery and manage health risks. Singapore regained access quickly, helped by our high vaccination coverage and compliance with international health standards. In several cases, our travel privileges expanded, further strengthening our position at the top of global rankings.

#1 8 Destinations Are Now Visa-Free Or Visa-On-Arrival

In the years following the COVID-19 pandemic, several territories have eased travel restrictions.

Guyana, Iran, Malawi, Tajikistan, and Timor-Leste no longer require travellers with a Singapore passport to apply for a visa. Burundi, Mozambique, and the United Arab Emirates now issue visas on arrival, which are effectively the same as visa-free travel in practice.

#2 China Is Now Visa-Free For 30 Days

Singapore passport holders have long enjoyed visa-free travel to China. With effect from 9 February 2024, we are now exempt from visa requirements for up to 30 days. This is due to a reciprocal visa exemption arrangement with China. Previously, it was only exempt for up to 15 days.

#3 UAE Extends Visa On Arrival

This year, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) introduced a 90-day, multiple-entry visa-on-arrival for passport holders of several countries and territories, including Singapore. Previously, we enjoyed a 30-day visa-on-arrival.

#4 Simplified E-Visa Process For 4 Destinations

The Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, the Russian Federation, and South Sudan still expect you to apply for a visa before entering the country, but have since simplified the application process compared to pre-COVID travel.

Before visiting Russia, for example, you can now apply for an electronic visa on a dedicated website.
