From Corporate Burnout to a Purpose-Driven Legacy: How Inspire Mum & Baby Became Singapore’s Most Holistic Centre for Women and Children

In 2007, at a time when prenatal wellness, baby swimming, and women’s therapy services were still fragmented in Singapore, former media executive Linda Tan walked away from a high-flying corporate career to start something that didn’t yet exist — a centre that truly journeyed with mothers and children through every stage of life.

With no business plan, little more than a vision, and a deep desire to do meaningful work, Linda launched Inspire Mum & Baby in a small shop in Katong Mall (now i12 Katong). This year, as the centre proudly celebrates its 18th anniversary, it has grown into Singapore’s only all-in-one centre offering integrated services in prenatal fitness, birth preparation, postnatal recovery, baby swimming, aqua therapy, and women’s wellness.

The centre officially opens its long-awaited second outlet at Bendemeer on 11 June 2025, bringing its one-of-a-kind offerings to even more families across Singapore.

A One-of-a-Kind Centre Rooted in Passion

Unlike many startups born from strategy decks and funding rounds, Inspire Mum & Baby was built on heart. Linda’s “retreat” from corporate life involved flying to the UK, US, Australia, Taiwan, and Thailand — not for business, but to learn. She immersed herself in yoga, Pilates, massage therapy, infant massage, bodywork, and eventually became Singapore’s first certified Watsu® practitioner, introducing a therapeutic water modality that would become a cornerstone of her practice.

“I didn’t start this as just a business,” Linda shares. “It was just a space to do something different — something purposeful.”

Today, Linda holds over a dozen certifications across women’s health, infant therapy, special needs education, and aquatic modalities. She continues to personally certify swim coaches under STA International and mentors her all-female team to go beyond instruction — to be educators, nurturers, and guardians of safe touch and trust.

Earning Trust, One Child at a Time

At Inspire Mum & Baby, swimming is not taught — it’s cultivated. From newborns in Aqua Tubs to toddlers learning submersion and safety, every class is child-led and play-based.

“We don’t just teach strokes,” Linda explains. “We teach survival, confidence, and respect for water. A three-year-old doing freestyle doesn’t mean much if they panic during a fall.”

This safety-first approach has earned the brand deep trust — parents drive from all over the island – Jurong, Yishun, and Punggol – for weekly classes. Many families stay for years, with some children starting as newborns and progressing all the way to swim strokes.

Supporting Mothers Beyond Fitness

What makes Inspire Mum & Baby truly holistic is its dedication to women’s health from bump to beyond. From prenatal Pilates, aqua fitness, barre, and couple classes, to doula services, myofascial therapy, and pelvic recovery work — the centre’s offerings reflect Linda’s belief that mothers deserve more than just physical prep.

Her own experience as a birth and postpartum doula reshaped her fitness philosophy.

“There’s more to birth than having a strong pelvic floor. I realised moms needed support for alignment, fetal positioning, birth fears, and emotional readiness. That changed everything about how we teach.”

The centre’s therapy arm, Women & Children Therapy Centre, offers specialised support for those recovering from C-sections, diastasis recti, pelvic floor dysfunction, and children with developmental or sensory needs.

Services are delivered in a warm, female-led, and body-safe environment — and where needed, in collaboration with physiotherapists, chiropractors, and osteopaths to provide a truly integrative approach to health.

A New Chapter: Bendemeer Flagship Opening

After 17 years at their Tanjong Katong- East Coast home base, Inspire Mum & Baby is marking a major milestone with the launch of its second outlet — a flagship space located within the iconic heritage National Aerated Water Building at Bendemeer.

Officially opening on 11 June 2025, the centre is designed to feel like a quiet retreat in the city: surrounded by greenery, fully wheelchair-accessible, and thoughtfully laid out with therapy room, a cosy studio, a breastfeeding consultation room, and an indoor heated salt-chlorinated pool.

This new space also launches a refreshed vision for the business, with the introduction of their dedicated therapy brand, Women & Children Therapy Centre, to deepen their focus on personalised therapy work for postnatal recovery and child development.

“We’ve held back from expansion for so long to protect the heart of the business,” Linda shares. “But this space felt right — the location, the energy, the opportunity to serve more families while staying true to our mission.”

A Future Built on Purpose

Looking ahead, Inspire Mum & Baby plans to deepen its partnerships with healthcare providers, expand its early intervention and postpartum support offerings, and scale its professional training programs for swim and wellness.

While Linda remains actively involved — teaching, mentoring, and guiding mothers through therapy and fitness — she is also laying the groundwork for Inspire Mum & Baby to grow beyond her as founder. The brand has evolved into a trusted name with strong repeat clientele, a distinctive service model, and a clearly defined niche in Singapore’s wellness landscape.

“I’ve always believed in growing with intention,” Linda says. “Now, we’re at a turning point where we’re exploring ways to scale — not just in size, but in impact.”

With two outlets now in operation and a flagship space designed for future programming, the business is poised for meaningful expansion — through strategic partnerships, or mission-aligned investors who believe in the value of holistic, integrated care for women and children.

In a world of flashy launches and aggressive marketing, Inspire Mum & Baby remains understated. Most of its growth has come from word-of-mouth, testimonials, and the quiet but powerful results seen in the families they serve — whether it’s a baby with movement delays taking their first steps after aqua therapy, or a mother finding relief from birth through Watsu and beyond.

As they celebrate 18 years of nurturing over 10,000 families, Linda remains anchored to her mission:

“To make birth, health, and learning positively memorable.”
