From 1 December 2024, all employers must also consider Flexi-work requests from existing employees, including part-time work and job-sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just like full-time employees, part-time employees are entitled to employee benefits and protected under the same&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dollarsandsense.sg\/business\/singapore-employment-act-statutory-requirements-pay-employees\/\">Employment Act<\/a>&nbsp;in Singapore. A similar full-timer works 44 hours a week (8 hours for 5.5 days). Assuming that the full-timer\u2019s leave entitlement is 14 days, here\u2019s how to calculate the leave entitlement for the part-timer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n[(21 hours x 52 weeks) \u00f7 (44 hours x 52 weeks)] \u00d7 14 days of annual leave for full-time \u00d7 8 hours per day for full-time = (1092 \u00f7 2288) \u00d7 14 \u00d7 8 = 53.4 hours. This translates to 7.6 days (53.4 hours  \u00f7 7 hours) based on the part-timer\u2019s normal working hours of 7 hours a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note: the year is computed on a 52-week basis and not 12-month-basis. This must be agreed by the employer and clearly stated in the contract of service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For part-timers who work only a few hours a week, forgoing annual leave entitlements may make more sense than computing and taking annual leave. However, this option does not apply to workers who work at least 5 days a week and from 30 to 34 hours a week. His hourly pay is $10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n[49 hours \u00f7 (21 hours \u00d7 52 weeks)] \u00d7 $10 = (49 \u00f7 1092) \u00d7 10 = $0.45<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By forgoing his annual leave entitlement, the part-timer\u2019s hourly pay rate will increase to $10.45 per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note: the year is computed on a 52-week basis and not 12-month-basis. Assuming that the full-timer\u2019s sick leave entitlement is 14 days and hospitalisation leave is 60 days, here\u2019s how to calculate the leave entitlement for the part-timer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n[(21 hours x 52 weeks) \u00f7 (44 hours x 52 weeks)] \u00d7 14 days of sick leave for full-time \u00d7 8 hours per day for full-time = (1092 \u00f7 2288) \u00d7 14 \u00d7 8 = 53.4 hours or 7.6 days based on the part-timer\u2019s normal working hours of 7 hours a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n[(21 hours x 52 weeks) \u00f7 (44 hours x 52 weeks)] \u00d7 60 days of hospitalisation leave for full-time \u00d7 8 hours per day for full-time = (1092 \u00f7 2288) \u00d7 60 \u00d7 8 = 229.1 hours or 32.7 days based on the part-timer\u2019s normal working hours of 7 hours a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"part-timers-are-also-entitled-to-medical-reimbursement\"><strong>Part-Timers Are Also Entitled To Medical Reimbursement<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to sick leave and hospitalisation leave, part-timers are also entitled to medical reimbursement if they are eligible for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employers must pay for medical consultation fees if the part-timer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Is covered by the Employment Act<\/li><li>Has completed at least 3 months of service<\/li><li>Is granted at least one day of paid sick leave<\/li><li>Has a medical certificate (MC) issued by a medical practitioner from an approved public medical institution or appointed by the company.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, employers are not required to grant paid sick leave or reimburse medical consultation fees for cosmetic procedures.
