Before launching Polar Plunge, Yang was working in a consulting firm as a civil engineer, while Steven specialised in timber. It was Yang\u2019s personal search for mental wellness that became the catalyst behind the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was dealing with anxiety and looking for natural ways to feel better. I started trying ice baths at home. And I realised, there was no one in Malaysia doing this properly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This sparked the idea for a purpose-built, more convenient cold plunge experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI also wanted a name that felt cool but not too serious, something friendly, but still hinted at the cold. \u2018Polar\u2019 gave that cold vibe, and \u2018Plunge\u2019 felt like action. Together, it just clicked.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building Polar Plunge As A Product<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

While many wellness brands start with community pop-ups or trial workshops, Polar Plunge took a different path. \u201cWe went straight into building a product,\u201d Yang says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the first few months weren\u2019t easy. They didn\u2019t make any sales for six months as cold plunging was very new in Malaysia, most people didn\u2019t understand it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things took a turn when two key moments unfolded. First, a surprise order came in from a customer in Singapore, and shortly after, fitness influencer Jordan Yeoh reached out to them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat was the turning point,\u201d Yang shares. \u201cPeople started to get curious. It finally felt like the idea was clicking, and people were starting to believe in it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBeing the first brand here, we\u2019ve naturally become a bit of a benchmark, but we say that with humility,\u201d Yang notes. \u201cWe\u2019ve always focused on setting higher standards with each version of the product and taking care of our customers. That\u2019s been our core from the start.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plunging Into The Market With Educating<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One of the major early hurdles for the founders was consumer education. \u201cMost people thought cold plunging was something only elite athletes did. We had to explain that it\u2019s actually beneficial for everyone to achieve stress relief, recovery, even mental clarity.\u201d Yang shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another challenge? Logistics. \u201cShipping bulky equipment across Malaysia, and now even regionally, was something we had to learn quickly,\u201d Yang says. \u201cBut we\u2019ve since found great partners and streamlined the process.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mistakes happened along the way, but the team\u2019s openness to feedback kept them grounded. \u201cWe made errors, like any new brand. But we stayed close to our customers, kept listening, and kept improving. That\u2019s what got us through.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite growing recognition, Polar Plunge remains careful about who they work with. \u201cWe see Polar Plunge as a modern recovery brand that fits into the wellness and fitness space,\u201d Yang explains. \u201cWe\u2019re very selective with the influencers we partner with. It\u2019s important that they bring real, positive influence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, the founders are taking a measured approach to expansion. \u201cWe want to scale, but in the right way, not just growing fast, but growing sustainably,\u201d Yang explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yang envisions Polar Plunge becoming the go-to name for cold therapy in Southeast Asia. This includes expanding their team, entering new markets, and evolving their product line to stay ahead of the curve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt some point, I\u2019d love to see the brand grow beyond me, maybe even as part of a larger group that shares our vision. But for now, we\u2019re focused on building something real. Something that lasts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
