And they won\u2019t be the only kidpreneurs there: helming other stalls are more business boys and girls aged four to 16, who are just as eager to put their selling skills and resilience to the test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Drop by the bazaar with your kids, and who knows? You might just ignite the entrepreneurial spark in them, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For now, let\u2019s get to know Siena, Venezia, Oliver and Elliot\u2014and their parents, who are leading the way by being entrepreneurs themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Read Also: <\/em><\/strong>5 Financial Lessons My Father Taught Me (Ranked From Best To Worst)<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n If you stroll along Singapore\u2019s park connectors, you might come across a cinnamon roll stand run by Siena, aged nine, and her six-year-old sister, Venezia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The girls have operated four of these stands over the last two years, with the cinnamon rolls supplied by Guilt Free Food<\/a>\u2014the bakery founded by their mum, Joyce Chung<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And now, these cinnamon roll sisters will be making their formal business debut at the bazaar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe girls already have a taste of how to run a business,\u201d shares Joyce. \u201cSo, when I came across the Kidspreneur Bazaar, I thought, \u2018Wow. This time, they\u2019re not going to be alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They\u2019re also going to see other kids in action. It\u2019s a favourable environment for kids to learn from each other.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Siena and Venezia will bake the cinnamon rolls in the morning of the bazaar\u2014no earlier. \u201cThey\u2019re made of natural ingredients, so we don\u2019t want them to spoil,\u201d explains Siena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then, when they\u2019ve reached their stall with their baked goods, the girls will get selling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMy little sister holds up the sign. I say hi to the people, like, \u2018Cinnamon buns! Great first thing in the morning!\u2019\u201d says Siena, sharing how they usually divide the responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIf they come to our stall, I will go there and assist. Sometimes, when there are two people, my sister also helps with the cinnamon buns.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n At the end of the day, the girls pay their supplier\u2014their mum\u2014for the rolls. The rest is their profit, which they split equally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Half of their earnings go into a \u201cSave\u201d box containing their savings. The remaining half is then split equally between:<\/p>\n\n\n\n As her daughters have racked up four cinnamon roll stands\u2019 worth of selling experience, Joyce feels that they already have the basics of running a business down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So, after her daughters attend the Singapore Kidpreneurs Bazaar\u2019s entrepreneurship workshop<\/a>, she feels confident that they\u2019ll be able to ramp up preparations for their stall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt\u2019s pretty amazing how kids absorb stuff so quickly,\u201d Joyce says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThey run their cinnamon stand, like, maybe once or twice a year. But every time they do it, they absorb new knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Joyce shares that during the recent September school holidays, she was delayed in getting her cinnamon rolls to her Guilt Free Food pop-up at Sentosa. But while she was stuck in the kitchen, Venezia held the fort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Venezia dished out sourdough cracker samples, telling people, \u201cHey, the cinnamon rolls only come in at 1.40 pm\u201d. Then, when Joyce arrived with them, she saw Venezia holding a sign she made from a cardboard kitchen towel tube to let customers know the cinnamon rolls were here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI hadn\u2019t told my daughters about the implications of missed opportunities, but they understood,\u201d says Joyce. \u201cAnd they did what they could to capture customers\u2019 attention and not let the opportunity go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n So, while Joyce felt guilty about her daughters spending their school holiday at her pop-up instead of enjoying their break, she was pleasantly surprised by how they made the most of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThey had fun. That makes me really happy,\u201d she shares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019m very proud of them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Read Also: <\/em><\/strong>Why Allowing Our Child To Manage Their Own Savings Accounts Can Teach Them The Value of Money<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n While nine-year-old Oliver Lee and seven-year-old Elliot Lee were packing to move house, they discovered they had many books and toys they no longer read or play with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n These pre-loved items are still in good condition, so the brothers will be selling them at the bazaar to give them a new home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI came across the bazaar, and I thought it\u2019d be a good learning experience for them to join and understand the difficulty in making money,\u201d says the boys\u2019 father, Lee Shao Rong<\/a>, owner of salad chain Supergreen<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThey love to buy books and toys, and we have lots of them. They probably think selling them is easy, so the bazaar is an opportunity for them to experience engaging with customers and learn how selling really happens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is Oliver and Elliot\u2019s first time selling things, and they\u2019re excited about it. As Shao Rong shares, the brothers have been hard at work choosing what to sell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For example, they intend to sell their copies of “Usborne Illustrated Stories from the Greek Myths”<\/em> by Russell Punter and “The Golden Age of Adventures 50: Gaze of the Gorgon”<\/em><\/span> by Tadatada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The boys then pack the items into cartons (with their parents\u2019 help) to keep them aside for the bazaar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAfter you put them in the pile, you just put more on the pile. And then, you continue putting [things] on the pile until it falls down. Then, you make another pile and make sure it doesn\u2019t fall down,\u201d says Oliver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe also write words on the box,\u201d Elliot pipes up. \u201cLike, \u2018Books for selling\u2019 and stuff. \u2018Discount for this much for a few days,\u2019 or something.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMy sons have some ideas of, \u2018Okay, buy one book is how much; buy two, you get them for cheaper; and buying three or four books is even cheaper,\u2019\u201d shares Shao Rong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During the bazaar, Shao Rong will help transport his sons\u2019 cartons to their stall. From there, they\u2019ll take over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHe will take the books, and then show them to people,\u201d says Elliot, pointing to Oliver. \u201cIf they choose the book they want, they\u2019ll give me the money. And then, we\u2019ll just put the money somewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n What do both boys want to do with their earnings?<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI want to invest in Microsoft,\u201d says Oliver, referring to the stock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI will save up the money for stuff, and then after that, if I got nothing to buy, I just invest,\u201d says Elliot, who adds that he wants to invest in the same stock as his brother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n (\u201cHow do you even know Microsoft?\u201d Shao Rong asks Oliver incredulously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI read in books,\u201d replies Oliver nonchalantly.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Read Also: <\/em><\/strong>Investing For Your Children: How You Can Help Your Kids Get Started On Investing<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Shao Rong hopes that his aspiring Microsoft investors\u2019 stint at the bazaar will leave them with a deeper understanding of the value of things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI hope they realise that, \u2018I spend $X amount to buy my toy, but now it\u2019s worth just this amount. How much effort do I need to put in to get back the full amount of money?\u2019\u201d he shares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While Shao Rong is open to his sons joining his salad business in the future, he\u2019ll leave the decision to them.
